Regulate in Nature

Oh Mother Earth,

It seems that the more we destroy her, the more the enormity of our deregulation consumes the life we experience. She is what we are, born of this female form; our bodies, in fact, are made of her. Our cells are a testament to life on Earth, regenerated and reborn.

She embodies balance, serves as the source of wisdom, and offers a vast supply of nourishment. But this connection is not one-sided. Like all mothers, she cannot withstand endless taking without retreat. We must give back and care for her. Much like our own bodies, we must respect and honour the Earth, for only then can she unlock her wisdom, nourishment, and protection for our being.

I bow in gratitude to her for this body, for the capacity to feel and listen to her essence. The Earth, much like our female bodies, is a temple, a sanctuary to behold and wonder at her magnificence. Without her, we would not exist.

Yet, respect for her has largely been lost in our act of taking more than we give. The indigenous peoples of our Earth hold this wisdom in their teachings—respect the sacred spaces, honour ancestral knowledge, and cherish the body that nurtures you as well as the body of the Earth that sustains us all.

When I feel rattled, nothing soothes me like lying upon her. There’s nothing like her fierce wind to blow away the echoes of my racing thoughts and calm my being. The gentle wash of her streams and oceans over my skin, the warmth of the sun that bathes her in light, and the vastness of the stars we share—these gifts remind me of our shared existence.

Just as I lean into my own temple, seeking healing, comfort, and answers from the divine source, she also holds the wisdom of the ancestors—those who walked this Earth before us and who co-exist with us now.

Next time you lie with her, next time you allow her to bathe you in her waters or in the light upon her, listen. She will have a message for you
